CGS104 Mothers & Motherhood
Introducing readings
You should plan to speak for 10 to 15 minutes. Your job is not to give an in-depth summary of the reading, but rather to encapsulate the main points and then to help lay the groundwork for an interesting class discussion. Feel free to speak about particular points or passages that you found to be interesting, problematic or confusing.
Questions that you should address include:
What are the main arguments the author(s) are advancing?
What evidence is being used to support this interpretative position?
Is the evidence sufficient and convincing?
What are the strengths and weakness of this work?
If relevant, how does this readings relate to other works we have read in this class?
In addition, you should come up two substantive questions for discussion that you email to me (rjp@ucsd.edu) at least 24 hours in advance of our seminar. I will review the questions and send them out to the other students to contemplate before we meet.
